What does a DevOps Administrator do? 

The DevOps Administrator oversees the implementation of application build, release, deployment, configuration activities and monitoring. The successful candidate will approach business change with positivity and zeal; common changes include new requirements, evolving goals and strategies, and emerging technologies. The DevOps Administrator will maintain and promote practices that ensure system confidentiality, availability, integrity and auditability in a 24 x 7 operations environment. The successful candidate will be an expert communicator, collaborating at the highest technical levels with Infrastructure, Development, and lines of business, thriving in a service-driven culture, committed to members and teammates alike. 

  • Facilitates IT training sessions on supported infrastructure application
  • Viewed as a credible subject matter expert (SME) by IT staff and vendors in the technology industry
  • Works with Business Technology and Infrastructure staff on application automation, monitoring and performance related issues
  • Acts as SME in a wide variety of tools for monitoring application availability, performance and usage metrics
  • Advises system administrators and network engineers on all automation
  • Responsible for working with Infrastructure, Development and Security Architects to maintain architectural standards
  • Technical lead for medium and large infrastructure projects
  • Proactively determines areas for improvement for infrastructure systems and services
  • Works with various vendors and service providers to ensure optimized system configurations
  • Designs custom performance and user analytics gathering systems for member-facing applications
  • Automates infrastructure and operations to maximize reliability, availability, scalability, and performance
  • Assists in establishing requirements, methods and procedures for routine maintenance

What are the requirements?

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field (preferred)
  • Six (6) plus years in IT with four (4) plus years in a DevOps or automation position
  • Experience monitoring analytics systems and automation tools such as Solarwinds, Splunk, and OpCon/XPS
  • Experience programming/scripting languages
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, human relation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with many levels of staff internally, as well as outside individuals and vendors
  • Ability to calculate figures and percentages


    • Advanced skills maintaining complex alerting/analytics systems such as Solarwinds, Splunk and/or ELK
    • Ability to author advanced rules for f5 load balancers
    • Ability to administrate both Linux and Windows environments
    • Familiarity in the following:
      • VMWare
      • Azure
      • Windows
      • Linux
      • F5
    • Intermediate skills in writing SQL queries
    • Intermediate Linux operating system skills
    • Thorough knowledge of various webservers, HTTP and RESTful APIs
    • Working knowledge of DevOps tools such as:
      • Team Foundation Server
      • Chef/Puppet
      • Docker
    • Familiarity with object oriented programming and scripting skills in two or more languages:
      • PowerShell
      • Python
      • JavaScript/Node JS
      • Perl
